OL Perpetual Succour, Shiroda HSS, Guardian Angel move into semis

Fatorda: Our Lady of Perpetual Succour HS, Cortalim, Shiroda HSS, Shiroda and Guardian Angel HSS, Curchorem entered the semifinals of Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tournament for boys U-17 after winning their respective quarterfinal matches at artificial grounds, Fatorda-Margao on Tuesday.

In the first quarterfinal, Perpetual Succour HS registered a well-deserved 2-0 win against Miracles HS, Sanguem. Glen D’Souza scored both the goals for the Cortalim school as he found the mark in the 4th and 43rd minute.

Our Lady of Perpetual Succour went into the lead in the very 4th minute as Glen D’Souza collected a forward pass and then after dodging two rival defenders slammed the ball to the far end of rival nets.

In the second session too Our Lady of Perpetual Succour played with intent as they launched attacks soon after resumption and buttressed their lead with Glen D’Souza completing his brace.

The match was then completely dominated by Perpetual Succour whose defence comprising Telson Pereira, Lesley Xavier, Rufino Fernandes and Ramul Reyang stood like a rock and never allowed the rivals to have a clear look at their goal. Their midfield too functioned like a well-oiled machine spraying neat passes, two of which culminated into goals.

On the other hand, the defence of Miracles never looked stable wherein Mairan Fernandes, Aron Gomes, Gadekar and Frazer Gomes were always under attack and even though they did their best to contain Cortalim school’s dangerous looking forwards, they lacked cohesion and understanding with each other and as such the rival team succeeded in making most of the opportunities that came their way.

In the other matches of the day, Shiroda HSS rode on a fine brace by Shrayesh Kamat to blank Immaculate Conception HSS, Dabal 3-0. Shrayesh found the mark in the 8th and 45th minute while the other goal was scored by Sweeton Vaz in the 40th minute.

In the last match of the day, Guardian Angel HS, Curchorem proved too strong for St Anne’s Institute, Canacona as they thrashed them 4-0.

Milton Fernandes scored a brace for the winners as he struck in the 11th and 48th minute, while Ashbel Dias (22nd minute) and Richard Fernandes (43rd minute) scored the other goals.

Perpetual Succour HS will meet Shiroda HSS while Guardian Angel HSS will clash with Fr Agnel HSS, Verna.
