Our Lady of Piety High School, Collem defeated St Anthony’s High School, Galgibag-Canacona 2-0 with Velcina Azavedo scoring both the goals for the winners.

With the first half remaining blank, all the attacking action was seen in the second session when Our Lady of Piety’s striker Velcina scored a brilliant brace, bulging the nets in the 38th and 42nd minute.

First Velcina dodged her way from the top of the box and then after drawing out the rival keeper, calmly slotted the ball home.

Four minutes later, Velcina was again in the thick of action when she received a neat pass off Priti Lakra and then banged the ball with a neat placement to the far corner of St Anthony’s High School, Galgibag nets.

The first half between these two teams was closely fought as the ball swung from one end to the other.

During this spell, the defence of both the teams stood firm but in the second session, St Anthony’s High School, looked nervous and succumbed to the tremendous pressure that Our Lady of Piety High School, Collem created.

Janchita Lakra, Anamika Tirkey, Nisha Patil and Emisha Lakra gave a good account of themsleves for Our Lady of Piety along with Nusrat Kotiwale, Velcina, Vilisha and Merlyn who coordinated well in the defence as well as in the midfield.

Velcina Azavedo and Vilisha Azavedo formed a deadly combination and with both of them working in tandem the rival defence which looked brittle in the second session, was taken fully utilised to score goals.

In the last ten minutes of play, St Anthony’s High School, Canacona tried to split Our Lady of Piety High School defence, but the moves were few and far in between.

Our Lady of Piety High School, Collem slowed down the pace of the match in the last five minutes of play, during which time, their rivals tried some long shots that were way off the mark.

In the other match of the day, Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim registered a huge 7-0 win against Sharada English High School, Marcela to also move into the final along with Our Lady of Piety High School.

Our Lady of Rosary Higher Secondary High School’s Razia Pires scored a hat-trick of goals, while Clency Miranda scored a brace of goals. Flamy Costa and Yukti Patil were the other goal scorers for the girls from Navelim.
