Of beats and rhythms


Swarmangesh 2019, a music and dance festival, presented by Rajdeep Builders and organised by Swastik Cultural Association in fond memory of Dinanath Mangeshkar will be held from December 6 to 8 at Dinanath Mangeshkar Hall, Kala Academy.

The audience will be warmly welcomed by an enchanting performance by Goan artist Yadnesh Raikar’s violin recital on December 6, 3:45p.m. followed by a vocal recital by Sawani Shende from Pune. Later, there will be a vocal recital by Rajan Misra and Sajan Misra accompanied by Ojas Adhiya on tabla and Vinay Mishra on harmonium.

Day two will begin with a mesmerising performance by Bengaluru vocalist Priya Purushothaman at 3:45 p.m. This will be followed by a classical vocal performance by Pravin Gaonkar. A young tabla artiste Yashwant Vaishnav from Chattisgarh will present a solo performance later. There will also be a performance by Rashid Khan who has been a part of this festival from its commencement. He will be accompanied by tabla player Akram Khan (Delhi), Murad Ali on sarangi and Vinay Mishra on harmonium.

On December 8, Meher Paralikar will commence proceedings with a classical vocal performance at 3:45 p.m., followed by performances by Kathak dancers Rudra Shankar Mishra and Sneha Bajaj hailing from Banaras and accompanied by Uday Shankar Mishra on tabla, Abid Hussain on sarangi and Manoj Desai on harmonium and backing vocals. Swarmangesh will draw to a close with a sitar recital by Shahid Parvez accompanied by Ustad Akram Khan on tabla.

There will also be an exhibition of books on music, music instruments, audio CDs and an authentic Goan food stall. The festival is open to all music lovers.
