Former deputy chief minister Vijai Sardessai has said that nepotism in education sector has to be opposed.
“Sadly, today there is a controversy in the selection of the teachers in Goa,” he said, adding, education is not a field to play around with. “Nepotism in education sector has to be resisted by all,” he maintained.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a Teachers Day function, organised by Keshav Smruti High School, Dabolim, he said that the teachers are pillars of New India, creating a knowledge-based society.
“The teaching community has laid down foundation for evolving India. Today the new challenge for the education sector is that technology is evolving at a fast pace,” he said.
“Technology will keep changing and the teachers will have to increase their knowledge and adapt to the changing times, otherwise they will be doing injustice to the GenNext. Similarly there should be no injustice to the teachers,” he said.
The function was held in collaboration with Nirvana Foundation and SSV Foundation International Bangalore at Keshav Smruti High School hall on Friday.
On the occasion, primary teachers and high school teachers besides non-teaching staff were felicitated at the hands Sardessai.
Around 90 needy students, studying in the school, were presented with school kits including bags, notebooks, dictionaries etc. Sardessai was also felicitated on the occasion.
