No more licenses to mega projects, says Reis Magos gram sabha

Reis Magos : The Reis Magos gram sabha have discussed to stop issuing water, electricity and licenses to new constructions in the village. The gram sabha was held at the primary school at Verem on Sunday.

The villagers raised the issue of non supply of PWD water to Tuant, Sonarbhat and Quegdevelim for the last 2 months. The residents of these wards are not getting water and people have to depend on tankers and private well for their daily needs. The villagers asked the panchayat to write to the PWD engineer to solve this issue as people are put to a lot of inconvenience.

The acting chairperson Kedar Naik conducted the gram sabha in the absence of the deputy sarpanch and the sarpanch Virendra Shirodkar who had resigned from the post. Naik told the gram sabha that the panchayat will take cognizance of this issue and will write to the PWD engineer to solve the issue, if not a morcha will be taken to the PWD office.

Villagers raised the issue of streetlights as for the last 10 months most of the streetlights are not functioning in the ward of Volant. Sanjay Pilgaonkar wanted to know from the panch member as to how long will it take for the issue to be resolved.

The chairperson Kedar told the gram sabha that the panchayat will be writing to the electricity department to resolve the streetlight issue as most of the area is in darkness causing inconvenience to villagers.

Villagers raised the issue of new water pipeline that is being laid by the PWD. The villagers said that the work is sub-standard and needs to be rectified before it causes problems in the future to the village.

Villagers reminded the chairperson that the TCP department has been putting conditions on every technical clearance orders stating that the Reis Magos panchayat has to verify the water and electricity requirements of the village before granting construction licenses. They said that the panchayat has been violating the said condition since 2009.

The panchayat secretary Premanand Mandrekar told the gram sabha that the budget for the year 2020 -2021 could not be presented as there is a code of conduct for the ZP elections.
