Nirmala Institute of Education hosts its first alumni reunion

Nirmala Institute of Education (NIE), Panaji held its alumni meet on September 27 at the institute premises. This is the institute’s first alumni reunion in fifty years.
Padmashree Suresh Amonkar was the chief guest on the occasion. Bailancho Saad founder and former NIE alumni Sabina Martins was the guest of honour. Founder, trustee and vice-chairperson of the Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IIPC) Kolkata, Sudha Kaul was the keynote speaker.
Chief Guest on the occasion Padmashree Suresh Amonkar said that within fifty years of its existence, brand Nirmala has been nationally recognised. Stressing on the importance of student-centric teaching, he said, “The moment a teacher gets a little niche in the heart of a student, is when he/she has got has greatest national award.”
Keynote speaker Sudha Kaul brought to fore the importance of inclusive education and the efforts being taken nationwide for its success. Kaul explicated on the RTE Act (2009), bringing to light the actual difficulties faced in making inclusive education a reality and success in India.
A Nirmala Alumni Educator of the Year Award, which will be instituted by NIE from the coming year, was announced on the occasion. The nominations for the same would be accepted from the month of January.
