Nestle India Ltd, Usgaon, Ponda, factory, became the first industrial establishment in the state to receive FSSAI, Eat Right Campus certification for its employee canteen. It is also the first facility of Nestle in India to have achieved the prestigious certification.
A company official said that, the Usgaon canteen catering to about 1,800 employees on a daily basis received the highest rating of five stars in the certification programme. “The certification process is very stringent as there are around 90 parameters on which an establishment is assessed such as premises infrastructure, food storage, hygiene, menu, etc.,” said Sanjay Bhandari, corporate affairs manager, Usgaon .
He added that, Nestle would also try for certification for the Bicholim canteen once the COVID-19 lockdown is fully lifted.
The Eat Right Campus initiative by the FSSAI is to promote safe, healthy and sustainable food in establishments wherever there is a canteen. In Goa the Directorate of Food and Drug Administration is implementing the initiative under the guidance of Jyoti Sardesai, director, FDA.
The audit was conducted by RIR Certification, an FSSAI certifying agency. The Nestle employee canteen is ISO 22000, OSHAS 9000, ISO 1705 (NABL) certified. The industrial canteen has the highest level of hygiene. “ Efforts are always put in to ensure the well-being of its employees through the food they serve in the canteen, their periodic health checkups, training of all the food handlers both in house and from external specialized agencies, facilities like in house dispensary, STP & ETP Plant & In-House Crèche for the children of the working mothers,” added Bhandari.
