Vasco: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state unit president Jose Philip D’Souza has informed that the former Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and the present Maharashtra NCP Rajya Sabha MP Praful Patel and the coalition government led by NCP in Maharashtra government has taken up the issue of Goan seafarers with the centre.
The NCP state unit president D’Souza disclosed this during a press briefing held in Vasco on Wednesday wherein he said that the Maharashtra government have made all out efforts to address the plights of Goan seafarers family members and also to bring them safe at Mumbai Port.
“The NCP have made aware of the situation a few days ago. The seafarers from Goa and other areas that were stranded on cruise ships anchored off Mumbai Port. The NCP Goa unit took the issue with the Maharashtra government who later addressed the issue with Indian Navy and the central government. We even took up the issue with the Home Ministry and got the notification from MHA last night”, said D’Souza.
He disclosed that the evacuated seafarers from Mumbai will be quarantined. “There is no question of letting seafarers without being quarantined, but we will be taking a call on this matter and the quarantine facility”, added D’Souza.
D’Souza maintained that he had constantly written and held telephonic conversation with the NCP leaders in Maharashtra to assist Goan seafarers in Mumbai port, since NCP was a part of the coalition government in Maharashtra.
