NABARD, Goa Regional Office, celebrated International Women’s Day on March 6, by holding an exhibition of products made by local self-help groups (SHGs) and inviting regional heads of major banks, SHG members, SHG Federation functionaries and women branch managers for a function.
Kamakshi S Pai, chief general manager, NABARD, delivered the inaugural address, in tune with the United Nations Women Day theme of Generation Equality and called for change in the psyche of society. “True empowerment of women can be brought through education and economic independence which offers them a choice in decision making,” she said.
The event had Sulbha Rathod, regional head, Bank of India, Shivani Nayak, chief manager, SBI-SLBC, Varsha Dhaimodkar, general manager, Goa State Cooperative Bank sharing views on women empowerment. Prominent SHG Federation leaders and members of some good working SHG were felicitated during the occasion in recognition of their work. Vasant Savardekar, deputy general manager proposed the vote of thanks.
SHG stalls that showcased their products witnessed brisk sales.
