Budding music artistes from Goa and the world over can enrol to compete for the upcoming World Konkani Music Awards

launch of the World Konkani Music Awards on February 7, 2020 at Dr Shyama
Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao. The event was announced by founder,
Allan Vaz; singer and social activist, Hema Sardessai; one of the organisers

The contest was conceptualised by Vaz when he realised that Konkani music was behind when it came to hosting award functions on a grand scale. “Being a Goan, I used to see a lot of music awards happening in all other languages. And I wanted that for Konkani music,” he said. Sardessai on the other hand said that she was ecstatic to be a part of the event. She requested people to come together and support the language.
“If Konkani is not supported then it will eventually die. Don’t let it die. It’s a parent’s responsibility to teach Konkani to their children with the hope of taking it forward. And there’s no better way to teach than through Konkani music,” she said. Designed on the lines of the international music awards, the competition is open to singers, lyricists, musicians, composers, etc above the age of 18. It will be judged by Sardessai along with veteran in the music industry, Atul Churamani; and editor, Rolling Stone India magazine, Nimrika Singh.
The categories for the competition are: Best Singer (male
and female), Emerging Talent (male or female), Best Music Director, Best Music
Video, Best Lyricist, Most Sold Albums, Most Streamed Song, Best Rock Band, and
Apart from the contestant category, the Lifetime Achievement Award and other awards for contribution towards Konkani music will be awarded to eminent personalities from the Konkani music industry.
Participants from all over the world are welcome to submit their entries on the World Konkani Music Award’s official website. They are also required to upload a video of an original composition on to the website and the entries will be screened by the judges.
All entries should be submitted before December 8.
