All municipalities have been permitted to carry out pre-monsoon work and general cleaning of their areas using surface disinfectant chemicals with 1 per cent sodium hypochlorite to ensure better sanitation and hygienic condition in the city and towns.
The municipal workers wearing protective gear will use spray machines for this purpose using disinfectants.
However, the department of municipal administration did not recommend for massive chemical disinfectant wash of the major public places like parks and market in major towns and cities since they are closed during lockdown.
“As per medical guidelines, there is no requirement of spraying chemical disinfectant at this moment in all major public places till end of government-imposed nationwide lockdown as there is no gathering of crowd,” said a senior official from the department.
The KTC, in coordination with the fire personnel, has started spraying sodium hypochlorite at bus stands to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
On Wednesday, the department carried out massive sanitisation in all 13 bus stations.
The effort is aimed to target frequently touched/contaminated surfaces.
The drive will continue at bus stations as a preventive measure against the spread of COVID-19.
