Goa’s startup scene is set to get brighter with Mumbai based BIZ Nest, shortly launching MeWo, an upscale meeting and co-working space for entrepreneurs, finds out Team B&C
Good workplace is what startups lack the most in Goa. Most operate out of scruffy working spaces and wish for smart premises at least sometimes when necessary.
Familiar with the need for trendy work environment that offers flexibility, conducive to discussing ideas and cracking deals, Mumbai based BIZ Nest, founded by entrepreneur Abrar Shaikh is all set to launch a meeting and co-working space in the state.
The co-working space, MeWo is targeted at startups who want a feel-good workplace where they can do business as well as recharge batteries. Located at Dempo Trade Centre, Patto Plaza, it will unveil on November 7. The project is a joint initiative between Shaikh and Shrinivas Dempo, chairman, Dempo Group.
On his upcoming venture, Shaikh who is a startup himself and a serial entrepreneur explains that, as the dynamics of society are changing every day, the criterion and expectations of working in an office are also in the line of change.
“Last decade saw a tremendous increase in the number of co-working spaces across the world. They have mushroomed at such a pace that surveys find it hard to keep a proper track of the number. From new startups to large and medium sized enterprises, everyone is availing the services of a co-working space,” he says
Shaikh explains that, Me Wo is not going to be just another run-of-the-mill co-working space. “It is plush, fully serviced and tech integrated with bit of five-star ambience,” he says, adding that, the facility will build up the ecosystem for startup.
“Our company is in the business of setting up co-working spaces in Mumbai and other cities. For our venture in Goa we are not just looking at local startups but also startups from outside the state,” he says.
According to Shaikh, co-working spaces have good potential in Goa as startups and companies based in major metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore etc are under tremendous stress due to their lifestyle, commute and imbalance in daily routines. The state’s serene ambiance together with a thriving tech community is sure to make his venture a success, he feels.
“MeWo is a premier kind of work nest. It is for startups and corporates who are based anywhere in India to which they can keep shuffling and sending different teams during any time of the year for various projects. The teams could also indulge in fun and peaceful time for themselves during their work stay. This is the very first time such an initiative is being activated by a startup in India to disrupt the co-working ecosystem,” he says.
As a serial entrepreneur, Shaikh has founded about three four startup companies previous to his Goa venture. “All my companies have been funded by angel investors and venture capitalists. My last startup company was brought out by ShopClues. Com, an online shopping site,” he reveals.
