Margao: The chairperson of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Pooja Naik, on Monday, informed that the councillors have asked the chief officer to bring the face masks and sanitizers that were procured and reportedly kept at Sonsoddo site.
“Majority of the councillors today attended the meeting held with the chief officer Ajit Panchwadkar. Councillors sought details of the face masks purchased by the council, when they were informed that the same are kept at Sonsoddo waste dumping site. He was also asked to relieve the daily wage worker working as assistant to him,” she added.
It may be recalled that the MMC had procured some 20,000 face masks to be distributed among the workers. However, it was alleged that several workers were found doing their work without wearing face mask. The councillors informed that after the meeting, the chief officer was urged to act tough on the roadside encroachers doing illegal businesses.
Councillors sought to know from the chief officer the details of the works done during the last one month and whether the councillors’ suggestions were implemented.
Naik said that citizens are urged to pay the tax online and visit the office only when there is an emergency.
“Please do not visit the MMC office unnecessarily. Visit only when there is an emergency. We will be allowing two persons at a time at the MMC office,” she added.
Interestingly, Monday saw many a citizens crowding at the MMC building corridors and at the ground floor offices.
The visitors, however, said that they came to the office after the Chief Minister declared that government offices will remain open from Monday.
