Vasco citizens are annoyed over an incident wherein some miscreants played mischief at the bust of first chief minister of Goa Dayanand Bandodkar in Vasco. On Saturday morning, some people noticed a hat placed on the bust and expressed ire over such an act of disrespect.
The bust of Bandodkar is located at Subrai Joshi chawk opposite Vasco railway station. The chawk has been recently thrown open to the public after massive renovation with the efforts of Mormugao Municipal Council and JSW under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Mormugao Yuva Morcha president Kiran Naik has demanded immediate action against the culprits involved in the act. “Bandodkar was the first chief minister and the citizens of Vasco have installed the bust in his memory. Vasco citizens are happy to have the bust of the first chief minister installed in the port town,” Naik said.
“The police should place the culprits behind bars with the help of CCTV camera which is installed right in front of the bust,” he said and further added that the incident of placing hat on the bust of Bandodkar has hurt sentiments of the people.
He maintained that “it is not only the duty of authorities to protect busts and statues of leaders, but of every citizen.”
