Milkha Singh speaks from the heart at Chowgule College

howgule College, Margao celebrated its Founders’ Day at the college campus with Milkha Singh. India’s greatest athlete spoke from his heart, shared his experiences and personal stories and interacted with students at the event.
Speaking about his journey through life, Milkha Singh shared his personal stories of success and trials with the students. “In my life, I have run 80 races around the world, of which I have won 77 races. I have visited many countries and in all these countries I have always given my interviews in Hindi, because I want to promote our national language. Since the release of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, I have been getting calls from around the world inviting me to give inspirational talks. But because of my age I usually refuse, since I cannot travel much. But when I got a call from Chowgule College I agreed immediately just because I would be addressing students and with the hope that after seeing Milkha Singh and after listening to his talk they will also be inspired”, said the legendary sportsman who is fondly referred to as ‘The Flying Sikh’. To mark the celebration of Founder’s Day, every year, Chowgule College gives away six special awards to deserving staff members and students. Nandkumar Sawant received an award for excellence in research and consultancy, Nandini Vaz Fernandes for outstanding performance in extracurricular activities related to students. The award for best general administration and accounts went to Deepak Bhandari. Vinod N Naik Arondekar received an award for the best support staff. The prestigious Hira Wagh Award was presented to Sukanya Chari for all round excellence in academics, extracurricular activities and sports.
Principal RV Gaonkar said, “The founder of the college, Shri Vishwasrao Chowgule was dedicated to creating an educational institution that would be an epitome of excellence. Keeping his vision in mind, Chowgule College has constantly strived to develop in academics, infrastructure, teaching skills and continues to encourage its students. Thus, over the years, the college has emerged as one of the finest educational institutions in Goa.”
