Margao rail station escalator to be commissioned soon: Naik

PANAJI: The newly-installed escalator at Margao railway station is expected to be commissioned by November. MP Shantaram Naik, who had recommended the project under Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), at a cost of Rs 90 lakh, recently, visited the station along with Joseph George, general manager and other officials including H K Bhagwan, Vinayak Naik, Sreedhar Bhat, Sachin Shetty and Shivanand Karseri.

Margao station is one of the important stations in Goa which is used by lakhs of passengers annually.

An escalator to access the existing foot overbridge was absolutely essential, and therefore, it has been installed for the benefit of railway commuters.

Konkan Railway Corporation had submitted a proposal to Naik and the process of approval started immediately. Naik said that he has already held discussion with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, some months back, who has agreed to inaugurate the project.
