Margao bus stand restroom lacks facilities

MARGAO:  The restrooms at the Margao bus stand which is often used by drivers, conductors and mechanics do not have adequate facilities.

Nearly 30 drivers, conductors and mechanics working at the Margao depot of the KTC have a small rest room with no proper water and electricity facilities.   The floor of the room is soggy and the water soaked walls create an unpleasant atmosphere for the employees.  The toilets have no doors and are in a pathetic condition.

“The restroom provided to us is in a pathetic condition.  We had brought it to the notice of the authorities, but our grievance has fallen to deaf ears” a dejected bus driver said.

A bus conductor said that instead of using the restroom, the staff is forced to spend the night in buses. “At least during the night, we can sleep in peace. However, this cannot be done on a daily basis.”

There are in all 160 KTC buses and nearly 400 employees at the KTC depot.   When contacted the depot manager, C A J Pereira    admitted that the facilities need to be improved and assured that the restroom will be renovated soon. Sources however disclosed that KTC had sought financial help from a company to renovate the rest room.
