Mapusa police have succeeded in recovering from an alleged chain snatcher three gold ornaments worth Rs 4.40 lakh that he had snatched from three women in separate cases.
On Wednesday, Mapusa police took into custody the accused Mukesh Sharma, 35, a native of Delhi currently residing at Mandrem from the Crime Branch in connection with chain snatching cases reported in Goa.
The accused was arrested in connection with chain snatching case reported on January 25 at Mapusa wherein gold mangalsutra weighing 35 grams worth Rs 1.40 lakh was stolen.
Police informed that one Deepa Navelkar had lodged a complaint that a motorcycle-borne unknown person wearing a helmet had snatched a mangalsutra from her neck. Police had registered an offence under sections 356 and 379 of Indian Penal Code.
Police informed that the accused will be arrested in connection with two similar cases which were reported in its jurisdiction. One case was reported on January 15 wherein Sonia Kalangutkar aged 50 was walking by the roadside when two motorcycle-borne persons had snatched her gold chain weighing 40 grams worth Rs 1.50 lakh.
Another similar incident was reported on December 28 at Colvale when the accused had targeted one Reshma Shetye and snatched away her gold mangalsutra worth Rs 1.50 lakh.
Under the supervision of PI Tushar Lotliker, LPSI Vibha Volvoikar and ASI Satish Naik are further investigating into the case.
