If you’ve haven’t tasted the fruit of the season yet, then here is a chance to taste and purchase some of the finest quality Mankurad mangoes at the second annual All Goa Mankurad Mango festival which will take place at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on May 12 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Speaking during a press conference on Friday at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, co-convenor of Transform Goa, Armando Gonsalves said that the festival is a platform for Goans to taste some of the sought after and best mangoes from Goa grown by the locals themselves.
At the one-day festival, tree owners/vendors will sell Mankurad mangoes. Besides this, mango drinks, mango products like cakes, juices and others will be available. There will be several Mankurad mango competitions wherein vendors will get to participate and win cash prize. There will be prizes for lucky entrants and opportunity to buy organic Mankurad mangoes from tree owners at below market price.
Gonsalves also said that they are intending to start a mango plant adoption initiative wherein people can take or adopt plants and regularly water them.
Extending his support to the festival, chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, Prashant Naik agreed to make Ravindra Bhavan, Margao a permanent venue for the festival so that the true identity of Goa would be revived.
Convenor of Transform Goa, John Desa, said that through his experience he has seen that there is a huge demand for Goan Mankurad mangoes around the world and this is a proud moment for Goa.
Raymond D’Silva and Anthony Fernandes of Transform Goa were also present for the press briefing.
