Road show on corporate governance
One of the greatest concerns for businesses operating in India or planning to invest in India is regarding the ‘Ease of Doing Business in India’. Presently, India is ranking 134 on the ranking which has recently slipped to 142 as per the CII-KPMG report. The government is committed to make doing business in India easier and has been taking quite a few steps in this regards. The government hence welcomes inputs on the various issues that are being faced practically on ground by industry and is also receptive to recommendations to mitigate the problems. CII has scheduled a road show on ‘Corporate Governance- Ease of Doing Business in India’ for the February 16 at Vivanta by Taj, Panaji. GEMS Budding Entrepreneurs Mentor-Mentee Conclave
GEMS recently organised the Budding Entrepreneurs Workshop 2.0 at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali in association with the Goa Youth Multipurpose Co-Operative Society and Rotary Club of Bicholim. It was inaugurated by Dr Pramod Sawant and was followed by five classroom sessions, conducted by Jervis Pereira of GCCI – I Create. The mentees have now been assigned with experienced businesspersons as their mentors and the one-on-one interactive session shall be held on February 19.
Empowering people to be self sustaining
GCCI – I Create along with Human Touch and Positive People conducted an entrepreneurship program for 40 participants in Merces on February 14. Some participants had failed businesses, others wanted to start out on their own while some wanted to improve the scope of their business. Clare Noronha, Farida Dias, Laura Alvares and Jervis Pereira conducted the program with Peter Borges of Human Touch and Godwin of Positive People in the lead. Participants were taken through the introduction of I Create, a business cycle, communication and an activity which helped them ideate on how to look for business opportunities.
Schemes offered by directorate of industries, trade & commerce
DITC offers and implements various schemes formulated under the Goa Industrial Policy, 2003. The Department offers incentives and interest free loans to entrepreneurs through simplified procedures.
Share Capital to Local Entrepreneurs and Self Employed Scheme
The main objective of this scheme is to encourage local youth, preferably of Goan origin, to start income generating activities and to encourage self-employment. Under this scheme, 50 percent interest free share capital contribution is provided to the beneficiaries of Chief Minister Rozgar Yojana, which is being implemented by the Economic Development Corporation for local youths to take up activities related to the industrial and self-employment opportunities, except, those which are falling under Red Category under the Industrial Policy and related to tobacco and liquor.
Preferential Purchase Incentives for Small Scale Industries Scheme
The scheme is intended to encourage and give boost to Small Scale Industries Sector. Under this scheme, small scale units registered in the State of Goa are given special treatment in any tender floated by Government Departments or any purchases made by any Government Departments.
Interest Subsidy Scheme
The scheme envisages providing subsidy to new and tiny units in manufacturing sector on interest payable by them. The main objectives of the schemes are:- a)To provide incentives to small industries for making their units financially viable. b)To promote industrial growth in the State and create an optimistic environment for small investors and local entrepreneurs to invest.
Goa State Financial Incentives to Industries for Certification & Patenting Scheme
The scheme envisages encouraging the industrial units to obtain ISI certification and/or patent right on products and/or processes. Such units provide benchmark of excellence and serve as a model for others to emulate. Under the Scheme, a maximum subsidy of Rs 2 lakh per unit, once in a lifetime is given.
Incentives to Women Entrepreneurs Scheme
In order to encourage the employment opportunities for women entrepreneurs, the Goa Industrial Policy envisages special incentives to women under various schemes.
