Majorda’s superior game play lead them into semis




AA de Majorda entered the semifinals of 19th Fr Basilio Andrade Memorial football tournament defeating St Anthony’s SC, Assolda 4-2 via the tie breaker played at Musson grounds, Majorda on Friday.

The teams played a goalless draw during the regulation time, despite having some great opportunities to score.

Both the teams played a defensive game and occasionally tried the long ball to break each other’s defensive line, during which time opportunities came their way to find the mark. However, the strikers of both the teams lacked conversion abilities even from close distance.

Majorda team’s defence was ably marshalled by Cresson Antao and company, while their opponents, St Anthony’s SC, Assolda also gave nothing away with Joseph Fernandes and Socoro Fernandes putting up a great show to keep the rival strikers at bay.

Wendel Coelho and Suraj Naik tried some shots at St Anthony’s goal, which did not pose any problem to rival keeper Johnson Fernandes.

St Anthony’s SC, Assolda also had a few opportunities which were frittered away. On one occasion, almost towards the end of the match, St Anthony’s attacking medio Carry Vaz tried a shot at the Majorda goal which missed the mark narrowly.

In the tie breaker AA de Majorda proved to be better shooters, scoring accurately through Cresson Antao, Suraj Naik, Wendel Coelho and Ismail

St Anthony’s SC, Assolda could find the mark only through Socoro Fernandes and Joyton Fernandes.
