Maina SC storm into Super Soccer finals

Maina SC stormed into the finals of the 26th Super Soccer after defeating Cuncolim Union 6-5 via tie-breaker, at St John, the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Friday. The teams played a 1-1 draw during the regulation time.

Daulat Dessai provided the lead for Cuncolim early into the second session which was neutralised within the next ten minutes by Maina SC striker Marcus Fernandes.

In the tie-breaker, Maina SC scored accurately through Placidinho Pereira, Joaquim Carvalho, Marcus Fernandes, Agnelo Martins and Melwyn Fernandes.

Cuncolim Union could find the mark only through Beston Colaco, Deepak Velip, Clifton Fernandes and Trayson D’Costa.

SMD Taleigao blank UC Benaulim 2-0

Sao Miguel de Taleigao blanked United Club of Benaulim 2-0 in the inaugural match of the Our Lady of Merces inter-village football tournament, at church grounds, Chinchinim on Friday.

It was Jayant Kuncoliencar who provided the lead for Taleigao with a powerful shot off a beautiful assist from Vikram Naik in the 27th minute.

Midway into the second session, Shashikant Naik connected a rebound off the rival keeper to score with ease after Vandany Naik had directed a scorching shot which came off the chest of Benaulim keeper. Shashikant who was lurking close by easily tapped it in.
