Massimo Moraes netted a brace while Ashnoy Gomes and Jassel Fernandes scored a goal each as Loyola High School, Margao hammered Miracle High School, Sanguem 4-0 to book their place in the finals of Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament for Boys U-14 (South District Level), at artificial grounds, Fatorda-Margao on Monday.

Ashnoy Gomes put Loyola HS into the lead in the very 5th minute. Massimo Moraes then struck in the 27th and 45th minute to complete his brace while Jassel Fernandes scored Loyola’s fourth goal in the 48th minute.

Loyola HS dominated the play in both sessions as they spread the ball well all over the rival territory and worked meticulously to find the mark. With just 5 minutes past from the start, their attacking medio Ashnoy Gomes after receiving a nice assist from the middle dodged an oncoming rival defender and slammed the ball into the rival nets, giving no chance at all to the Miracle HS keeper Rahul Dodamanni.

Miracle HS thereafter tried to regroup as Aliston Fernandes, Daksh Nadvimanni, Bryden Fernandes, Chrislon D’Costa along with medio Rowinson Mascarenhas, Renben Oliveira and Sydroy Fernandes created some counter forays which however were nipped in the bud by Loyola HS back-four. After some midfield exchanges, Loyola HS once again launched an attack that culminated into a goal. In the 27th minute, Loyola striker Massimo Moraes on receiving a diagonal pass broke open the rival defence on sheer speed and then bulged the nets in great style to buttress the lead.

Soon after crossing over Massimo completed his brace in the 45th minute with an angular effort.

Loyola have by now taken complete control over the proceedings even as under-pressure Miracle HS tried to defend their fort from crumbling further. After creating some good forays, Loyola HS scored their fourth goal of the day in the 48th minute when Jassel beat rival keeper Dodamanni with ease.

In the finals Loyola HS will meet Our Lady of Perpetual Succour HS, Cortalim from Mormugao taluka. The winners between the two will be crowned South Goa champions and they will then play the winners of North Goa champions for the state title, ultimately earning the ticket to Delhi for the main tournament.
