The state government on Monday declared a locality of Mangor Hill, Vasco, as a containment zone after two persons of the area tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing media persons, health secretary Nila Mohanan said that samples of throat swabs of the two persons from the locality tested positive for COVID-19, as per RTPCR testing.
However, she maintained that it would be premature to say that the cases have established community transmission of COVID-19.
“…Our primary focus is to ensure contact tracing of the immediate neighbours of the family from Mangor Hill,” she said, adding that as of now the authorities have not been able to establish a clear travel history of the particular persons.
“So we want to ensure proper contact tracing and testing of the residents of that locality…. we also want to ensure that there will be no risk for the other people. Extensive testing of people from Mangor Hill will be taken up immediately…,” Mohanan explained, appealing to the people of the locality not to panic on the declaration of their locality as a containment zone.
As per the media bulletin, 1035 samples tested negative for the virus, two tested positive and reports of 1,078 samples are awaited.
It is learnt that a police constable attached to the Colva police station have also tested positive for the deadly virus. Hence all police personnel were asked to undergo the COVID test.
They underwent the COVID test by late Monday night.
