Melwyn stars for Sesa

MAPUSA: Melwyn Fernandes 55th minute goal enabled Sesa Football Academy Sirsaim registered a hard-fought 1-0 win over Sporting Clube de Goa in Goa Pro League relegation round match at Duler Stadium, here on Wednesday. The teams headed for the breather in a goalless draw. Playing the last match of the relegation, Sesa stand on sixth position with 23 points, while Sporting stay on 18 points in the seventh position of the league.

Chandor Club enter semifinals

MARGAO: Chandor Club entered the semifinals of McDowell’s No 1 Yaari Premier Cup, defeating United Club of Benaulim by a solitary goal in the quarters played at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Wednesday. Soccoro Fernandes scored the all-important goal for Chandor in the 21st minute.

Verna ride on Moniz brace, reach finals

MARGAO: Riding on a fine brace by striker Necesidade Moniz, Verna SC thumped Sao Jose de Areal 2-0 and entered the finals of the 1st South Goa Zilla Parishad football tournament at church grounds, Nuvem on Wednesday. After a goalless first half, Moniz scored both the goals in the second half as he hoodwinked the strong Areal defence on sheer speed down the right flank to score in the 50th and 61st minute.

Nerul reach quarters

MAPUSA: Nerul SC reached the quarterfinals of the 9th All Goa Pio Jose Goveia Memorial Soccer Cup, organized by YSC Colvale, after they were given walkover as their opponent on Wednesday’s fixture Football Club of Siolim failed to report for the match. On Tuesday, Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao downed Siquerim SC Mayem 1-0 with Vikram Singh being the goal scorer.

St Christopher hold Quitula

MAPUSA: St Christopher SC Tivim came from a goal deficit to hold Quitula SC to a 1-1 draw in the GFA’s U-14 2nd Division League, at Tivim grounds, Wednesday. Yash Parwar put Quitula ahead but Dattaraj Gaonkar scored the equaliser for Tivim.

St Anne’s holds sports cum athletic meet

CANACONA: The biennial sports cum athletic meet of St Anne’s Institute, Agonda, Canacona was held recently with director of Agriculture Orlando Rodrigues being the chief guest while Dr Devashish Bagchi, director of Physical Education, Parvatibhai Chowgule College, Margao as the guest of honour. Monica Lal Chandani was the special invitee. The sports meet began with a colourful march past presented by the four houses of the school before a huge crowd followed by mass drill.

Mahila Nutan, Posh English win

PANAJI: Mahila Nutan HS, Margao and Posh English HS, Navelim have advanced into the next round of the U-14 inter-school cricket tournament, organised by Goa Cricket Association after registering wins in their respective matches held at Arlem ground, Raia on Wednesday. Mahila Nutan beat Manovikas HS by 6 runs in the first match while Posh school defeated Adarsh HS by 2 wickets in the second.

7-a- side football at Siridao

PANAJI: Siridao Boys have organised a 7-a-side football tournament at River Plate, Siridao SC ground at Siridao from December 19. Winners will be awarded Rs 50,000 and runners-up will pocket Rs 30,000. Interested teams may send their entries to Menino Afonso or Sebastao.
