Pune world junior chess: Anurag wins, Ivana draws
PANAJI: Dempo Goodwill Ambassador IM Anurag Mhamal (2.5 points) recorded his fourth round victory over compatriot M Chakravarty Reddy (2217), while WIM Ivana Furtado (3 points)was engaged in an interesting duel with IM Arabidze Meri (2409) of Georgia in a Queens gambit declined encounter that ended in a draw on the 38th move. GM Cori Jorge (2612) of Peru leads the open category with 4 points. IM SL Narayanan leads the Indians with 3.5 points. In the girls category, WGM Khademalsharieh Sarasadat (2366) of Russia and WGM Padmini Rout of India along with 2 others are leading with 3.5 points.

GTBCA 1st stage selection trials
PANAJI: Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association (GTBCA) will conduct 1st stage selection trials for state teams (men and women) for the 25th senior national tennis ball cricket championship to be held at Himachal Pradesh from December 6 to 9. The selection will be held on October 19 at kunkolim tennis ball cricket ground, from at 9.30 am onwards. Interested players may report to Hemant Khot or Nilesh Naik with complete tennis ball cricket outfit and a bat.

Goa’s Anura in all India badminton doubles finals
PANAJI: Goa’s Anura Prabhudersai, partnering with Riya Mukeerjee of Bengal, moved into the Junior Girls (U-17) doubles finals at the All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2014, currently underway at Bangalore. In the semis, the second seeds registered a comfortable 21-9, 21-14 win over 6th seeds Apeksha Nayak and Nivedha Srinivasan. They will face top seeds Kuhoo Garg and Harika V in the championship finals. In Junior Girls (U-19) doubles, Goa’s Anushka Kuvelkar and Anoushka Parikh of Gujarat, who were seeded top, reached the semis before losing out to third seeded pair of Sruthi KP and Farha Mather 21-18, 21-18 in a hard-fought match.

Goan Warriors stay unbeaten
MAPUSA: Goan Warriors SC continued their good run of form in the ongoing GFA’s 3rd Division League, as they registered a 1-0 win over Sirsaim SC, at Tivim grounds on Friday. It was a brave and energetic performance by Sirsaim colts to hold unbeaten Goan Warriors till the 79th minutes of play. Sirsaim played defensive game as they packed their last line of defense to frustrate the Goan Warriors strikers. Finally, it was a 35-yard long ranger taken by Phandhari Chopdekar that kissed the crosspiece and entered the goal, giving Sirsaim keeper Jenson no chance to react.
