GCA condoles BCCI chief Dalmiya’s sad demise

PANAJI: Goa Cricket Association (GCA) has condoled the sad demise of BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya who passed away on Sunday following a massive cardiac arrest. “Dalmiyaji loved cricket. For him, the good of the game came first. It was his vision that helped cricket leapfrog and take centre stage in Indian sports. His loss will be irreparable not only to the game but all those who followed it,” GCA president Chetan Desai said in his condolence message. “Knowing Dalmiyaji was in itself special. He had a great vision for the game and it was because him that cricket in Asia changed so much. Not just cricketers but all involved in the game got their dues through the work of Dalmiyaji,” said GCA general secretary Vinod Phadke. The executive committee of GCA will hold a special meet to condole the death of Dalmiya. Meanwhile Desai and Phadke attended Dalmiya’s last rites that took place in Kolkata on Monday.

‘World Elders Day Walk’ at Cuncolim on Oct 1

PANAJI: Cuncolim Union Club in association with Parish Youth Cuncolim will be hosting its annual ‘World Elders Day Walk’ on the theme ‘You were there for us. We are here for you’ on October 1 for all senior citizens in Cuncolim. YES Bank’s, “‘YES Community”, ‘Together For A Better Tomorrow’ an outreach initiative has tied up with the Cuncolim Union for the noble task. Cuncolim Union Club president Prakash Dessai extending invitation to all Cuncolkars to participate in large numbers in the 5 kms walk that will commence at 4.30 pm hours from Cuncolim Church, and after covering the route via Gotton, Bhiunsa, Adiband, Dandora, will end at Cuncolim Church. GFA president Elvis Gomes will be the chief guest. For registrations Prakash Dessai or Oscar Gracias may be contacted.

Arlem YA beat Raia Sporting 2-0

MARGAO: Arlem Youth Association beat Raia Sporting 2-0 in the GFA 3rd Division Football League, at Manora grounds on Monday. Arlem YA scored their first goal in the 32nd minute through Floyd Cardozo, while Jackson Colaco scored their second goal in the 70th minute.

Assolda prevail over Loutolim

MARGAO: St Anthony’s SC, Assolda defeated SCC Loutolim 14-13 via sudden death in an exciting match of the 34th Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup, at Padri Bhat grounds, Sao Jose de Areal on Monday. The teams played a goalless draw during the regulation time. In the gruelling tie-breaker, Assolda side proved to be better shooters as they knocked out Loutolim team to book their place in the quarters.

Milagres SC fail to report for GFA’s 3rd division tie

MAPUSA: Milagres Sports Club Mapusa failed to turn up for GFA’s Third Division League match (Bardez Zone) schedule to be played at Duler grounds here on Monday. The rival team Bastora United and the match officials however were present at the venue. When asked to know the reasons for his team’s absence, Milagres SC secretary Savio Fernandes said that during the managers’ meeting it was decided that due to Ganesh Festival the third division matches on all the venues stands postponed till September 21. Going by his logic, it was however surprising to see the rival team Bastora United and the match officials report at the venue for the scheduled match. GFA executive member Adv Dominic D’Souza was present at the venue and said that the outcome of Monday’s match will be decided by the GFA headquarters.

Rotary Club TT from September 23

PANAJI: Rotary Club of Panaji’s Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament will begin on September 23 at Indoor stadium, Campal. Following is the tournament schedule–Sept 23: Cadet Boys and Sub Junior Boys upto finals; Sept 24: Cadet Girls and Junior Boys upto finals and Sub Junior Girls upto pre-quarters; Sept 25: Sub Junior Girls starting from pre-quarters upto finals and Junior Girls and Ladies upto finals; Sept 26: Men’s upto finals; Sept 27: All finals. Players have been asked to report at the scheduled timings.

BPS TT tournament from September 28

PANAJI: BPS Sports Club will organise its Annual BPS All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis tournament for boys and girls from September 28 to October 2 in various categories at the BPS Table Tennis Hall, Margao. Events will be held in the following individual categories for boys and girls: Mini-Cadet (Boys & Girls); Cadet (Boys & Girls); Sub-Junior (Boys & Girls); Junior (Boys & Girls); Ladies and Men. All finals will be held on Friday, October 2 from 5 pm. Players may submit their entries to Vishnu Colvalker or submit personally to the club office or email at  bpsgoa@gmail.com  latest by 12 noon on Friday, September 25. Draw will be conducted on same day at 4 pm. Players are informed to check for timings of games in advance at the club office or on GTTA website: www.ttgoa.in. The managing committee reserves the right to cancel the event if there are no sufficient entries, states BPS SC’s press release.

Sodiem Super Soccer from September 27

PANAJI: Sodiem Boys are organising Sodiem Super Soccer 2015, their 1st All Goa 9-a-side open football tournament at Sodiem ground, Tropa Waddo from September 27. Winners will be awarded cash prize of Rs 1 lakh while the runners-up will get Rs 50,000. Trophies for winners and runners-up besides individual prizes will also be given. First match of the tournament will be played at 3.30 pm on September 27.
