SJD Areal shoot out ICSC Paroda
MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal sailed into the quarterfinals of Youth Club of Manora soccer after knocking out ICSC, Paroda 5-4 via tie-breaker, at Manora grounds, Sunday. The teams played a goalless draw during the regulation time. In the tie-breaker, Areal scored accurately through Aggio Antao, Sedrick Andrew, Shelton Dias, Mariano Rebello and Sylvester Carvalho. Paroda side could find the mark only through P Faria, Tino, Angelo D’Costa and Godfrey Rodrigues. Patrick Lima of ICSC Paroda was declared the man-of-the-match.
Panchwadi United oust Verna SC to advance into semis
MARGAO: Panchwadi United stormed into the semifinals of Custodio memorial football tournament as they carved out a 3-2 win against Verna SC via tie-breaker at panchayat grounds, Raia on Sunday. Both the teams started the match on a fast note and continued to play in the same vein till the very end without finding any goals. In the tie-breaker, Panchwadi United proved to be better shooters, scoring accurately through Aaron Almeida, Ashwin Godinho and Rosemond Rodrigues. Verna SC could score only through Vishal Rego and Basilio Rego.

Saligao United move into quarters
MAPUSA: Saligao United moved into the quarters of the 16th Vagator Soccer 2014 tourney, organised by Vagator Parish Youth Club, with a 2-0 win over Football Club of Siolim, at Ozran ground on Sunday. Both the goals came in the second session of play. In the 53rd minute a curling corner by Trevor Dias was headed into the goal by Amar Halanker. Three minutes later Clifton D’Souza getting hold to a pass from Agnelo Sequeria scored the insurance goal for Saligao.

Zoribhat make semis grade
MARGAO: Zoribhat defeated Antonian Club of Deusua 8-7 via tie-breaker to enter the semifinals of CRCC inter-ward football tournament played at church grounds, Chinchinim on Sunday. The teams were locked goalless in the normal period. In the tie breaker, Zoribhat scored accurately through Raju Raiker, Vincy, Wellington, Jospeh, Jimmie, Vincy, David and Josley. Antonians Club of Deusua could find the mark only through Alvito, Clifford, Wendel, Jovel, Johnson, Frazer and Dinesh.
DBO Fatorda blank FC Siolim 3-0
PANAJI: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda defeated FC Siolim 3-0 to enter the semifinals of 26th all-Goa St Annes inter-village festival soccer tournament, organised by Ponda Footballers and played at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti- Ponda. Christopher Borges scored in each half and Ashley Araujo scored in the injury time. DBO, Fatorda will meet Penha de Franca in the semis schedule on July 19.

PANAJI: Ritviz Parab remained on 3.5 points after going down to IM Murli Karthikiyan (2477) in the fifth round of the 44th National Junior Open & Girls Chess Championship 2014 being held in Pune. Ameya Audi and Anirudh Bhat are on to 3 points. Gaurav Madkaikar and Saish Audi are on 2.5 points each, while Vagesh Tendulkar is on 2 points. In girls category, WFM Riya Savant is on 3.5 points. Aditee Prabhugaonkar, Sakshi Naik Gaonkar and Disha Verenkar are on 2.5 points. Gaayatri S and Urvi Bandekar are on 2 points, while Faiziya Khan and Panali Desai are on 1.5 points each.
