Quitula thrash Sanquelim 5-0, reach semis

MAPUSA: Quitula SC trounced FC Sanquelim 5-0 to seal their berth in the semis of the Milagres Soccer Cup, organised by Milagres SC and played at Duler stadium, here on Sunday. Quitula outfit started brightly and went into the breather with a two-goal lead. Melwin Rodrigues put his team ahead off a cross by Amar Kinlekar, while minutes later Melwin Rodrigues set by Amar who net the second goal, 2-0. On crossing over, Sanquelim tried their best to get back in the game but the last line of Quitula held to their two-goal lead. As the match progressed Quitula pumped in three more goals through Akshay Shirodkar, Miland Shinde and Nivan Serrao.

 

Verna SC edge past Navelim Sporting

MARGAO: Verna SC defeated Navelim Sporting 2-1 to enter the quarterfinals of the 44th Custodio memorial football tournament played at panchayat grounds,Raia on Sunday. Savio Fernandes provided the lead for Verna SC with an elegant effort in the 15th minute of play to beat the Navelim keeper Cleton Gomes and in the second session Santano Rego added one more goal in the 46th minute to make the issue safe. Navelim Sporting pulled one goal back through Joseph Dias in the 50th minute as he intelligently beat the Verna SC keeper Deniston Barretto.
