Vice chairman of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) Sidharth Kuncalienkar on Thursday along with GSIDC chairman and MLA Deepak Pauskar and engineers witnessed the load testing of northern approach of underconstruction third Mandovi bridge.
Speaking to media persons, Kuncalienkar said that the bridge has been designed so that it can even bear the load of army tank movement during any emergency. Twelve trucks loaded with metal weighing 52-55 tonnes are used for load testing.
Kuncalienkar informed that if there is anything then it will be rectified on the spot and the testing will go on for three days.
He said that motorists will not face jerks on the new bridge while plying on it as care has been
taken to eliminate vehicle vibrations at expansion joints through use of modern technology and in turn ensuring smooth movement.
He said the bridge workers have also saved crores of litres of water by making use of newer technology.
He said presently there are 1,500 workers, 50 engineers engaged in various works of the bridge,
also working to ensure that the project meets the deadline.
He said CCTVs will be installed to keep a watch on two-wheeler riders,
who come onto the bridge and they would be challaned.
