Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) launched the Thar 700 limited edition at a sticker price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex- showroom, Delhi). This is the last batch of current generation Thar to be rolled out as a new generation model will be introduced in 2020. The limited edition commemorates the 70 year heritage of Mahindra as the first vehicle was developed in 1949. Just 700 units of the SUV are being manufactured to commemorate 70 years. The Thar 700 is in all-new Aquamarine colour in addition to the popular Napoli black shade.
The limited edition SUV flaunts a black-finished front grille while riding on newly-designed 5-spoke alloy wheels. In addition, it features decals on the side and bonnet along with a silver finish on the front bumper. The main highlight is the special badge with the signature of Anand Mahindra, chairman, Mahindra Group. Inside the cabin, the SUV gets leatherette upholstery with Thar logo on the front seats as standard. The company has also included ABS as standard safety feature.
Speaking on the special edition Thar 700, Veejay Ram Nakra, chief, sales and marketing, automotive division, M&M, said that the company is ecstatic to present the last 700 units of its iconic off-roader in its current avatar.
The vehicle can be booked online or at any authorized company dealerships. Under the hood, it has the same 2.5L 4-cylinder diesel engine which develops top power of 105bhp at 3800rpm and peak torque of 247Nm between 1800-2000rpm. The engine is linked to a 5-speed manual transmission which transmits the power to all the four wheels. Nakra added that, the company believes that, enthusiasts will see it as their last chance to own a piece of this Mahindra legacy, as a must-have garage collectible.
“The Thar is clearly an extension of the company’s 70 years legacy and its brand. Over the years, it has successfully shaped the lifestyle vehicle segment while being popular with the off-road tribe,” he said .
If latest media report is to be believed, the next-generation Thar will be launched in the Indian market in 2020.It is expected to be powered by a new 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine and it will be compliant with BSVI emission norms. This engine will be more powerful than the existing 2.5-litre unit that offers 105bhp of power and 247Nm of torque. It is expected that the new 2.0 Litre engine will produce about 140bhp of power and over 300Nm of torque. The increase in power output and torque is expected to help the new Thar to perform well on rough terrains as well as on the highways. Autoportal
