Navelim: A brilliant strike by attacking medio Larryl Mascarenhas whose goal proved to be the match winner that came in 90+3 minutes, enabled Dempo Sports Club to over-come Youth Club of Manora 2-1 and earn full points in the GFA First Division Football League match played at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Sunday.
Dempo Sports Club who had a fairly good game scored through medio Altroy Rodrigues (47th minute) to take the lead and then as the match went on to add on time of four minutes of play, Dempo found the match winner in the 90+3 minutes through Larryl.
Youth Club of Manora found the mark in the 52nd minute through a free kick which Francis Andrade curled to beat the otherwise confident looking Dempo keeper Wassim Shaikh.
The match began with some good passes and it was Dempo S C that looked impressive with some fine positional play even though Youth Club of Manora matched their rivals in equal measure.
Dempo defence was ably managed by Ariston Costa, Darell Mascarenhas, Nikhil Gurung, Velroy Cardozo and Rayan Pinto who gelled well with each other and also did a lot of overlapping when required. Youth Club of Manora’s defence too looked quite in touch where in Aliston D’Souza, Darren Fernandes, Danny Fernandes and Velito Miranda gave a good account of themselves to keep Dempo strikers Kimran Fernandes and Baggio Fernandes under check. They were later replaced by Cletus Pinto and Danston Fernandes which substitutions served the team a great deal better as the match wore on.
Dempo SC went into the lead just two minutes into the second session of play when Altroy Rodrigues dodged two rival defenders and unleashed a powerful shot from 30 yards which he dispatched to the top corner of the nets.
The action then turned to the other end, with Dempo keeper faltering on crossing the line of 18 yard box while taking his shot after grabbing the ball. Referee Jose Rebello promptly awarded a free kick which Youth Club of Manora’s Francis Andrade curled to the far corner of Dempo SC nets and levelled the encounter.
Goaded by success, Monara team then began to control the proceedings to a large extent and it was during this spell of time that Dempo SC coach thought wisely to bring in Cletus Pinto and Danston Fernandes who helped the team a great deal in stiching some great moves one of which proved to be a move which fetched the winning goal.
Just as the match entered the final minute of play, Dempo’s Danston dodged a couple of defenders and passed the ball to an onrushing Laryl Mascarenhas who responded with a neat placement to beat the rival keeper and fetch his team the match winner.
