In a bid to create a conducive and technologically-enriched learning environment, Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) has initiated the Smart Classrooms Project under the Smart City Mission. This project aims to revolutionise education by introducing advanced educational technology in government schools, encouraging smart learning and cultivating smart students.<\/span><\/p>\n

IPSCDL has undertaken this project to establish 12 smart classrooms in two government schools – the Government Primary School Panaji Central and Dr. T.B. Cunha Government Higher Secondary School in Panaji. This initiative, conducted in partnership with the Directorate of Education, Goa State Council Educational Research and Training, and Goa Samagra Shiksha, was completed on June 15, 2023, with an estimated budget allocation of Rs 1 crore.<\/span><\/p>\n

At Government Primary School Panaji Central, which caters to students from Classes 1 to 4, the initiative has transformed five classrooms. The school now boasts 60 tablets with dedicated trolleys, five interactive smart TVs, 25 benches, child-friendly furniture, and essential infrastructure enhancements, including painting, lighting, electrical work, false ceilings, and cupboards. Also, five chairs and five tables per classroom have been provided.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, at Dr. T.B. Cunha Government Higher Secondary School, serving students in Class 11 and 12 across science, arts, and commerce streams, the initiative has supported seven classrooms. With a focus on advanced technology, the school now features wall paintings, false ceilings, lighting, fans, and essential classroom equipment, such as seven laptops, multimedia projectors, interactive panels, microphones, video conferencing cameras, along with seven chairs and tables per classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGovernment schools, in general, are perceived to lack in infrastructure and even basic facilities. The Smart City Mission under IPSCDL took on the initiative to develop smart classrooms in two government schools in Panaji, giving them a facelift, facilities, and has set a benchmark for other schools in Goa to develop the same. This initiative provided infrastructure, teaching aids, and all requirements to facilitate smart teaching and smart learning,\u201d said chief executive officer at IPSCDL, Sanjit Rodrigues.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Smart Classrooms initiative represents a comprehensive approach, integrating two key components to revolutionise education. Firstly, it involves the supply of advanced ICT learning equipment, featuring digital devices like auto-charging trolleys, interactive UPS, Android-based multimedia content, video conferencing cameras, laptops, microphones, LCD interactive panels, multimedia projectors, digital cabinets, and e-book readers (tabs). Secondly, infrastructure development plays a vital role, with enhancements such as child-friendly furniture, false ceilings, electrical wiring, waterproofing, cupboards, and painting works, all aimed at creating an enriched learning environment helpful to student engagement and academic success.<\/span><\/p>\n

The impact of the Smart Classrooms initiative has been profound, with a noticeable improvement in student attendance and enthusiasm for learning.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSmart classrooms have changed the teaching experience, making it more interactive and reducing the workload for teachers,\u201d said headmaster of Government Primary School Panaji Central, Ajit Kholkar. \u201cI would highly recommend implementing this advanced technology throughout Goa. It not only saves time but also ensures students are more attentive, leading to improved attendance and positive feedback from parents. It\u2019s a win-win for both students and teachers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Senior teacher at Dr. T.B. Cunha Government Higher Secondary School, Kiran Kholkar, added, \u201cSmart classrooms make learning faster and more interesting. We can use a big screen to show textbooks, so students can see and understand better. It helps save time and makes learning fun.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
