Shukr Sudin Usgaokar<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n I see people who do not care for each other,<\/p>\n Forced by pretence and custom to come together.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I see families singing Aartis every evening,<\/p>\n Who know the words but not their meaning.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I see crowds upbeat, in the mood for celebration,<\/p>\n But in their hearts, for the Lord, no real devotion.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I see roads blocked and jammed, for hours at a stretch, by processions,<\/p>\n But also the ambulance driver, hapless and helpless, gritting his teeth out\u00a0<\/p>\n of frustration.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I see money being splurged on festivities and extravagance,<\/p>\n But few would know what Chaturthi means and its significance.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I see amidst amongst all the merry-making and gaiety,<\/p>\n Bal Gangadhar Tilak forgotten from public memory.<\/p>\n To revive the festival, he fervently tried.<\/p>\n Through mass celebration, bridge the caste divide.<\/p>\n And foster amongst us a sense of pride,<\/p>\n For our country and some much-needed unity.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I see people shouting loudly, \u201cGanapati Bappa Morya!\u201d<\/p>\n But ask them who is Morya, they\u2019ll have no idea.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I see rivers, lakes, and ponds being used for immersion,<\/p>\n Choked with filth as they already are, another cause of pollution.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I see firecrackers, for no reason, being lit and flung,<\/p>\n Till late at night, a relentless onslaught on the ears and lungs.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I see the face of the Lord everywhere,<\/p>\n But not the tears pouring down from his eyes.<\/p>\n The God of learning, the remover of obstacles,<\/p>\n While his devotees revel, he silently cries.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I\u2019ve seen too much, more than I can handle,<\/p>\n The mockery that we\u2019ve made of this festival.<\/p>\n People will as always be back next year,<\/p>\n And hopefully, with the blessings of the Lord, a little wiser.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n (Writer is a law student)<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [et_pb_section bb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.8″][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.8″] Shukr Sudin Usgaokar I see people who do not care for each other, Forced by pretence and custom to come together.
