This time, last year, we were in the last ‘normal’ days before the before the pandemic hit. NT KURIOCITY asks youngsters about one of the last normal moments they experienced, and on looking back how this makes them feel
Just a few days before lockdown began we had a photo shoot with our teachers and we clicked a lot of pictures that day, not knowing what lay ahead of us. Looking back now, those pictures hold so much more value because that’s the last bit of a happy memory I have back in college owing to the fact that we didn’t have a farewell. Unknowingly, just a day before the pandemic hit, my friend and I went to the beach and I’m so glad we did. Thinking in retrospect now, I understand how much we take these little things for granted, since I yearned to see a sunset during the lockdown days but couldn’t.

Well the last normal moment I still cherish is the absolute freedom we once had to travel and go on with our lives without having to think twice or worry about a disease or wear a mask and follow other safety procedures. We never had to think about these things before, but we have to think about it now and we don’t know how much longer we might have to go on with it. Looking back at the freedom we once had, which now merely just seems like a dream, really saddens me. Hopefully those times come back sooner and we’re free from the constraints of this disease.

We were sent on untimely imprisonment in the month of March last year. No doubt initially it looked exciting. No school, colleges, office, just at home in our comfort zones doing what we like. But then there was a saturation point and we started longing to get back to our previous routine. I missed my freedom of going for college fests and events. Performing on stage, drama, street plays, dance, etc, all put on halt. Meeting friends personally became obsolete, that freedom of breathing in fresh air was curbed by suffocating masks. Online lectures proved that they are not the best way of learning and we humans do need to interact with each other physically. At least today we kind of are going back to normal with events and programmes happening around.

The pandemic and lockdown has had a different impact on all of us. The last normal moment that I can think of is classes. We had classes in physical mode and didn’t have to wear the stuffy mask or think of sanitising our hands before doing anything. After the pandemic hit I have not been able to meet my friends and also not been able to visit my native home. The pandemic has made me miss important events and fun. Life before the pandemic seems unfamiliar because we adjusted to the new normal.

During my final year and amidst a college event there were rumours that we were headed for a lockdown, and on the very last day of the event the lockdown was announced. I don’t know whether colleges will have fests anymore but that last normal moment, my college event, is what I will cherish for the rest of my life. The fun I had with my college mates, dancing to the tunes played at DJ night.
