After a two-year hiatus owing to COVID-19 restrictions, Petul, organised by the Konkani Bhasha Mandal (KBM), Goa, is now being held in various locations across the state.

The annual event, which is organised for school children, involves cultural performances, book and music releases and exhibition of Konkani literature, music and educational books.

This year, the event has already been held in Margao, Curchorem, Sanquelim and Pernem. It will next be held on February 26 at Shri Shradhanand Primary School in Canacona and on February 28, at Shri Dev Bodgeshwar Sansthan Hall, Mapusa, from 4 p.m. onwards. More than 3,000 children from various schools will participate. Local organisations from across Goa have lent their support to make Petul a grand success.

President of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal Anwesha Singbal says that Petul is a much-needed platform created and nurtured by the organisation over the last few years to carve a suitable niche for Konkani language and literature in Goa and India.

“The mandal brings together writers, translators, singers, musicians, language enthusiasts and well-wishers to work towards the upliftment of Konkani language and literature as well as for the creation of a strong corpus of children’s literature, music and educational books,” she says, adding that Petul is always brimming with talent and a youthful yearning for learning, literature, and music.
