The Museum of Goa is inviting young artists from across Goa to participate in the end-of-year children’s exhibition at the Children’s Art Studio on December 17

The Children’s Art Studio (CAS) at the Museum of Goa (MOG), Pilerne, is a one-stop destination for families, where even adults can become children again. In the spirit of nurturing creativity, the centre will play host to the end-of-year children’s exhibition.

Project coordinator, Children’s Art Studio, Tarushee Mehra says that they would like to encourage young artists to express themselves freely and submit their artworks for the exhibition. “We invite young minds near and far to help make this space their own with their own creations in the studio. We hope that the participants will unleash their creativity with paints, colours, crayons and even collage! We expect the unexpected and we eagerly await entries to fill up the walls of the studio with colour,” she says.

The exhibition’s themes are: ‘Your favourite folk tale, story or fable’, ‘Mera Naam _____, create your own superhero or supervillain’ and ‘Goa in my Pocket- a tiny adventure’. Participants are also encouraged to paint on a topic that they feel strongly about, apart from the themes suggested in the guidelines for the exhibition. The last date to submit the paintings for the exhibition, which is open to those in the age group of 6-16 years, is December 10. The size of the painting must be A3. The participants may choose any medium and send a photo of their entry on WhatsApp, along with the artwork’s title, their name and age. “We have had an overwhelming response with over 300 entries every day,” says Mehra, adding that the participants will be required to send in their framed artworks to MOG by December 13.

“A panel of artists, including Subodh Kerkar (founder), went through each and every entry and came to the conclusion that we, at the museum, would like to display as many artworks as we possibly can. We were floored with the diversity in the choice of mediums, composition and originality with which the participants expressed their choice of theme,” says Mehra.

All participating schools and principals will be invited to the inauguration of the event. Along with the painting studio, where visitors can buy a souvenir, paint it their own way and take it home, there will also be an art station set up with canvas and paints for visitors to paint their hearts out. Mehra says, “It will be a day with a lot of activities for all ages. So come and spend an artsy weekend at the Children’s Art Studio.”
