With Goa becoming the first state in the county to have the Digital Integrated System for Holistic Teaching and Virtual Orientations (DISHTAVO), a digital platform for college lecturers to upload course content, NT KURIOCITY asked students for their feedback on the same
I find this platform quite informative and the concepts are explained well by the lecturers. The advantage is that it helps some of us gain additional knowledge in subjects we are interested in and are different from our academic course. We can watch the recorded lectures innumerable times to understand the concepts and take notes efficiently. The disadvantage would be that being a recorded lecture, students are unable to interact and clear their doubts at the same time. Overall, I find this platform helpful to learn something new or to gain a better understanding of any topic.

The concept of online learning is one which is yet to be fully understood and made foolproof. DISHTAVO has started with a series of online lectures through YouTube which seems very promising at first look. With organised playlists and interesting intro logo animations, each video is packed with lessons having their respective lecturers explaining concepts ranging from economics to psychology and philosophy. Currently the topics seem more commerce-centric but hopefully, with the constant build-up of the library we hope to see a greater variety of subjects being explained. Though PowerPoint seems the most optimum medium for presentation, adding more videos and pictures would help in making lessons more interesting to learn, compared to the norm of bullet points. Overall, this initiative taken by Government of Goa is in the right direction, as students look forward to more content from the comfort of their homes.

DISHTAVO is a fruitful online learning platform. During the ongoing pandemic regular classes cannot be conducted, hence DISHTAVO will play an important role in imparting education. Owing to the poor network connectivity in some places students face hurdles in attending online live lectures; hence recorded lectures are of great use as they can be viewed at any time of the day. Even if students are physically locked down in their homes, through DISHTAVO studies remain unaffected. Assorted costs that are related to transport don’t affect the student in this system. As a student I think DISHTAVO has become a boon for the student community.

DISHTAVO is an admirable initiative wherein students at the undergraduate and postgraduate level can benefit from video lectures on various subjects in their respective fields. Though it is a good approach, I find the video lectures uploaded on this channel really short. Also, it has already been sometime since its launch but still there is no lecture available on certain subjects. And the site provided to open the DISHTAVO portal is insecure which can cause problems. However, it is a good step by the government but it needs more attention.

Education is in crisis at the moment. Our answer to the education crisis during the pandemic has been to offer online education. Our biggest challenges are often our greatest learning opportunities, and DISHTAVO Goa is a blessing in disguise and a learning experience for the ambitious young minds of Goa. What was considered an entertainment platform has now turned out to be an educational platform for teachers and students, especially in areas with connectivity issues. This will act as a repository for students who have missed classes or want to revise the syllabus.
