With the second wave of the pandemic still in force and the third wave looming, schools/colleges are unlikely to open. A couple of students share with NT KURIOCITY how they are facing another year in online mode
Most of us have braced ourselves for virtual classrooms, as a student I would say the biggest change I’ve seen in myself with online classes is that I have become less focused with my work. Certain topics are interesting to learn online while certain are just bouncers, also having long hours of exposure to screen sometimes leads to headaches and stress. Physically being in the classroom is tremendously different from online learning. Nevertheless, we have to follow the protocols, and until we find a cure maybe we have to go ahead virtually.

Initially, when online classes started last year, it was extremely tough to shift to a whole new medium of studying. I felt demotivated most of the time because during online classes I had the liberty to wake up late, not attend classes and in general do anything but study. I also missed interacting with my friends and teachers. However, this year I have adjusted better because online classes are the new normal and it’s useless lamenting because maybe for the next few months, physical classes won’t begin. Nowadays, I restrict my phone usage for other things during online classes and procrastinate less. While I still feel like skipping classes and don’t pay attention at times, it’s still an improvement from my slack ways of last year.

Honestly, I had many plans for my HSS life. I took admission in the HSS of my choice knowing about its life and vast opportunities to explore various arenas for personal development. My class 10 unfortunately was online so the charm of my last school year was lost, but the same fate came my way in class 11as well. Things are going on, but as a student who’s always involved socially, I can’t take the isolated and secluded way of studying and learning things. I have joined a new educational institution and have around 60 classmates but I haven’t even seen them. If by chance I happen to meet one of these guys in the market for sure I won’t end up recognising them. Online classes are not bad but I miss the touch of being physically in class and learning. I hope things get better in the coming days.

Now it has become a new normal to sit in front of the laptop and talk to it assuming it to be our teacher, which is true though. I wish and hope our school life resumes soon so that we can relive the bonds with our friends and teachers.
