With COVID-19 cases at an all time high in the state, NT KURIOCITY asked a few youngsters how they have been prioritising physical and mental health
It’s a bit difficult to stay motivated during such times. Carrying out the most basic activities becomes a task but I try to keep myself physically fit by exercising for two hours every morning. Likewise, for my mental health, my escape has been reading books and listening to music and hoping for things to get better sooner or later.

Pandemics such as the one we are already struggling with often ignite fear, anxiety and erratic behaviours. Being physically and mentally sound during this crucial stage is the key to dealing with this. I guess reading, music and art have been my mental therapy and to some extent, yes, it has helped me to stop pondering on unwanted isolated thoughts. For my physical well-being, I have been eating right. Boosting my defence mechanism and trying out cool exercises with my parents.

COVID-19 has made a major impact on my life. The working environment has changed swiftly and normal accessible commodities are far away. Bring trapped inside the house has definitely taken a toll on me. But I find ways to keep myself on track. I had my interests in writing which I resumed. I do home workouts every morning to deal with the rigidness of being at home. Cooking, playing the guitar and daily calls to my friends and family has helped me to relax and focus during this pandemic.

One should engage in activities one likes, such as painting, sketching, reading or anything for that matter. Besides, they can spend time with their family, friends or cousins. I prefer yoga which helps me to be energetic and keeps my mind cool, calm. And since I live in a joint family it feels like high risk because everyone has to do go their work and you cannot stop each one. But they say if you are positive then all will be good. So that’s what I do to stay positive.

During this COVID-19 scenario I would give preference to mental and physical health, in the sense thinking positive increases immunity. One should always think positive, which empowers the mind. An increase in immunity makes one stronger. This can be easily done by regular meditation, yoga, having milk with turmeric, and water with tulsi and peppermint leaves. Secondly, I prefer to wear mask compulsorily, maintain social distancing, perfect sanitising and going out if there’s any emergency. Everyone can do easily and stand strong against this pandemic.

I have been keeping myself engaged in online classes as I am in class 12 science. And in free time I spend time with my pet dog. In the evening I play some mind boggling games and perform some fitness exercises at home. This has helped me to learn to cope up with the present day crisis, thereby balancing my physical and mental health.

Health is a combination of physical and mental well-being. The pandemic and its impact on the economy has made us realise that mental fitness is of utmost importance. And for that, I would strongly suggest all to engage in some physical exercises, breathing exercises and meditation in daily routine. Physical activity gives mental relaxation and mental activity gives physical relaxation. Keep your mind positive and win the negative situation.

The quantity and quality of our social interactions play a huge role in our mental health, so it’s no surprise that social distancing has led to many people feeling disconnected or cut off from the real world. Staying in touch with friends, family and co-workers is a key element in minimising feelings of isolation and protecting mental health. Exercise is a great way to release pent up energy and reduce levels of stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. I also practise exercise like light stretching and body weight exercises.
