Kshitij 2018, a project exposition, the first-of-its-kind in Goa, was inaugurated by Governor, Mridula Sinha at Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda.
Speaking on the occasion, Sinha remembered the martyrs on Kargil Diwas and urged students to work for the betterment of the nation. Elaborating on how Kshitij can set boundaries and also encourage people to dream, she encouraged students to have more affection and empathy for society, and not just learn to construct or create.
Provincial, Panjim-Konkan Don Bosco Province, Fr Felix Fernandes; rector, Fr Paul D’Souza; director, Kinley D’Cruz; principal, Neena Panandikar and convenor professor Ajit Salunke were also present on the occasion. Fr Felix explained how the college not only focuses on technical excellence but on providing holistic learning environment that includes everyone.
Kshitij 2018 showcased projects in five different categories this year. Around 51 exhibits under academic category by students of Don Bosco College of Engineering and other engineering colleges of Goa were displayed along 21 mini technical projects and 12 science projects by students of DBCE.
Students from the departments of mechanical engineering, and electronic telecommunication engineering at Goa College of Engineering, Ponda won first place in academic project and received a trophy and prize money along with certificates.
A project competition was organised in association with ISHRAE Goa Chapter for school students which had 12 teams participating in senior and junior categories. Organisations like Shanta Pumps, Infinyt 3D, Autotech and Elementronix participated in the industry expo. The expo was attended by more than 1000 visitors which included around 750 students from nine different schools of Goa.
Various parallel events like one-day hands-on workshop on ‘Introduction to Robotics’ for school teachers; HR Summit in association with NIPM, Goa Chapter; seminar on ‘Career in Engineering’; talk on ‘HVAC’ by ISHRAE and seminar on ‘Power Tools’ by UPGRADE (Kakode Group) were also held as part of Kshitij 2018.
The chief guest for valedictory function was president of Goa State Industries Association (GSIA) and proprietor of E P Kamat Group, Rajkumar Kamat.
