Canacona: A goods vehicle truck was denied entry into Goa after an activist Vishant Prabhu highlighted the violation of ferrying passengers in goods vehicles.
Prabhu said, “Upon enquiry with the driver, he informed me that they were allowed entry into Goa, knowing that the truck was packed with men”.
Two wooden decks were created in the truck and around 50 men were travelling in the truck. Such activities can be suspicious and should be taken seriously by the transport department, he said.
Locals present during the incident said that people should not be believed by word of mouth given by occupants of such vehicles as many can enter Goa with wrong intentions.
Later the truck carrying people who said they were holy men were sent back by the personnel at the Polem checkpost back to Karnataka as it was a violation of the motor vehicle act. There is a ban on carrying passengers in goods carriers and people travelling in such conditions have been killed in many accidents across the country in the past.
