Jovisco double sinks Cuncolim

MARGAO: Riding on a brilliant double strike from Jovisco Fernandes, United Boys of Dando-Colva knocked out Cuncolim Union 2-0 and entered the quarterfinals of Bernado Furtado memorial football tournament at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Tuesday.

Jovisco was so devastating that the Cuncolim Union strong defence and goalkeeper Adney Fernandes, who otherwise brought off some smart saves, could not stop the speedy UB Dando-Colva striker from finding the mark. Jovisco overran the Cuncolim defence quite easily as he demolished the strong Cuncolim Union’s defensive wall and scored great goals to the delight of his teammates. He put his team into the lead in the very 10th minute of play and then completed his brace in the second session. Both the goals had the stamp of a class written on them.

Cuncolim Union had a number of tries at the rival goal with Daulat Dessai proving to be a hard nut to crack for the Colva defence. But somehow Daulat was foiled in the nick of time of shooting into the goal. The goalkeeper of Dando-Colva Elestry da Silva brought off two acrobatic saves off Daulat Dessai. In the last few minutes of play, Cuncolim Union tried some long rangers which were off the mark.
