Sail through the Nile and explore through the tombs of ancient Egypt as the lands of the pharaohs at St Xavier’s College is all set to host the fourth edition of Calamus- Where We Speak For Ourselves on February 23. Calamus is an annual inter collegiate competition organised by the students of Department of Journalism. The highlight of this year is its décor theme- Egypt and the various onstage and offstage competitions like Linkage, Illustrating Journalism (Cartooning), Sansani (Sensationalizing news), Street Play, Quiz, Photography, Treasure hunt, Skit etc.
Calamus is a platform for all the college students to explore their creative side through the various competitions that will seem simple, but which have an underlying message, and awareness to spread- that in order to be a responsible citizen.
This one-day annual event initiated by the department also put its own students’ skills into practice. The aim is to provide exposure to students in event management and production as a means of personality development and interaction with eminent personality from the media industry.
The Department of Journalism which came into existence in 2006 also provide students with knowledge and skills to become a successful media professional by giving special emphasis on print, electronic, new media, photography, videography, etc.
The course BA in Journalism spread across six semesters with 18 specialiced papers in encompasses not only news writing or editing in the print media but also in electronic and online media with papers on Radio Broadcast Journalism, TV Broadcast Journalism , Online Journalism and New Media.
