CALANGUTE: The Chabad House, which is a Jewish community centre located in Anjuna has been placed under security cover after terror threat from global terror outfits such as Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) and al-Qaeda to places in India including Goa.
The Chabad House is located at St Anthony Praise in Anjuna and is owned by Guru, a businessman and a well-known personality in the locality.
Guru said that he provides the premises on rent mostly to Israelis, who visit the House to hold prayers and also stay there for 15-20 days. In the course of their stay, the Jews organise gatherings and plan their prayer meetings. After about a week of planning, they conduct the prayers, which sometimes continue for a fortnight at a stretch.
The Jews also bring provisional items with them when they visit the Chabad House and cook and serve food free of cost to the locals and anybody visiting the House, which also witnesses a huge gathering on Jewish New Year Day.
Two persons from Brooklyn in the United States of America namely Menachem Mendel Orenstein and Gajer Eliezer frequently hire the premises to hold prayers, said Guru. He said that they recently stayed in the House for nearly 15 days before leaving for their country and added that they will visit the place again in November. The Chabad House is fully under surveillance with closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras and whenever the Jews hold their prayer meetings, sufficient police security is provided to the place.
Sources said that the purpose of the Jews’ visit to the Chabad House to organise prayer meetings is to fulfil the wish of their Lord to have a prayer house in Goa. Sources said that the Jews believe that in 2009, their Lord led them to Goa and hence their aim was to have a prayer centre in the state. Hence, they started coming down to Goa to pray, said the sources adding that they now have their main office here. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) officials keep visiting the Chabad House for inquiries.
On the Walls of Jerusalem is a ministry that is committed to praying for the peace of Jerusalem and working towards the salvation of the lost, both Jews and Gentile. Sources said that the Jews have a vision to establish a 24/7 prayer centre in the state, blessing and supporting Israel during her difficult times.
