‘Jeevan Safalya’ held at Govt College, Quepem

A one-day workshop titled ‘Jeevan Safalya’ was organised by Red Ribbon Club and the NSS unit of Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem.
The workshop aimed at highlighting discrimination against HIV positive students recently witnessed in Goa and utilising PTA groups to promote compassion and tolerance. In all, eighty parents and teachers from various educational institutions participated in the workshop. Goa State Info-tech Corporation chairman and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai was the chief guest at the inauguration. In his address Phaldessai condemned the incident of discrimination against HIV positive children in Rivona and highlighted the need for tolerance and compassion.
Resource persons for the workshop included associate professor of preventive and social medicine, Goa Medical College, Bambolim, Jagdeesh Kakodkar and programme officer at World Vision India, T Meshach.
Jagdeesh Kakodkar spoke about the preventive measures, counselling and caring for HIV positive people and treatment facilities available for the same in the state.
World Vision India programme officer T Meshach explained the organisation’s activities. Volunteers and HIV positive members of World Vision India narrated their experiences and personal stories to the participants. A street play was enacted by members of World Vision India.
The Workshop was organised by Tanvi Prabhu Malkarnekar, Reema Kunkolienkar, Vikrant Modaliar, Juliana Sylveira and Ashok Mangutkar.
