A 45th minute strike through a free kick by Nicholas Rodrigues was enough for St Sebastian Union Club, Benaulim to register a solitary goal win against Parish Youth, Nuvem and enter the semifinals of 7th St Sebastian Union Football Tournament played at St John, the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Wednesday.
It was the PY Nuvem team that had the upper hand as they went on with their business creating some clean moves that put the rival defence off guard on quite a few occasions.
However, the clear chances that the PY Nuvem team had were all muffed off due to poor shooting abilities.
St Sebastian Union Club slowly began to come into their own with Paulwin D’Silva playing a huge role for the team, along with Rody Rodrigues and company.
Nicholas Rodrigues created good forays and playing a perfect role in the midfield, was at the centre of most of the moves that the Benaulim team made.
Benaulim lads were good in the defence and the midfield but their strike force lacked the firepower and as such they lost several chances in the first session and quite a few in the second half too.
It was thanks to the curling free kick of Nicholas Rodrigues that helped St Sebastian UC to snatch a win against the Nuvem lads when most of the play indicated that the teams could end up in a draw.
A Nuvem player who fouled against an onrushing St Sebastian striker was pulled up by the referee and Nicholas Rodrigues smartly curled his shot to the far corner of the rival nets, giving no chance at all to keeper Shawn Rodrigues.
