History-sheeter remanded to judicial custody

Margao: History-sheeter Agostinho Carvalho, who was arrested by Maina Curtorim police, has been remanded to 14 days in judicial custody. He is known to disguise himself as a policeman to rob people.

He was taken to Margao Hospicio Hospital for medical examination and was ordered to be taken to Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB).

A senior police officer said that this is the second time that he has been arrested. “We are unable to conduct investigation since he is not in our custody. We have to interrogate him and recover stolen cash and other valuables,” the officer said.

At the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB), a police guard has been posted to keep a watch on him.

As per police information, the alleged accused is involved in over 30 cases in Goa and is wanted by Maina Curtorim police in a robbery case.

On July 29, Carvalho, a resident of Majorda, had committed robbery of Rs 30,000. He approached a salesman at Nuvem and asked him whether he had permission to sell cigarettes and then snatched away a bag containing cash of Rs 30,000, the police had said.

Previously, Mapusa police had arrested him for allegedly assaulting a Merces resident and committing theft of Rs 40,000 in cash.
