Hired car falls on its side after hitting speedbreaker

Benaulim: A rent-a-cab turned turtle and landed in front of the gate of the Holy Trinity church, Benaulim, damaging vehicles along with it. Three persons were injured in the mishap.

Colva police said they received a call in this regard at 8 am and that injured persons were rushed to hospital in 108

ambulance.

Witnesses said that the cab was proceeding towards Varca and it was speeding, adding, it lost control after hitting a speedbreaker located just before the church.

As per information, a tourist was driving the rented car in a rash and negligent manner. 

Felicia Rodriguez, aged 40 and Carmina Gracious, aged 43, both residents of Benaulim, were injured in the mishap, so also a cab passenger from Manipur.

According to police, Felicia and Carmina had come to drop children to school at Benaulim. The rent-a-cab hit scooters of Felicia and Carmina, resulting in both the women getting injured.

Carmina has been admitted to Goa Medical college (GMC) and Hospital while Felicia has been admitted at Hospicio hospital, it was learnt.

Police inspector of Colva police station Melson Colaco said that based on a complaint, an offence under Sections 279, 337 and 338  have been registered against driver Amit Kumar Yadav of  South West Delhi. He was arrested by Colva police. Police have conducted panchanama and further investigation is in progress.
