High Court of Bombay at Goa on Tuesday issued notices to Abhijat Parrikar, the son of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in connection with a petition filed against him for alleged destruction of forested areas for the construction of an eco-resort.
The division bench of the High Court comprising of Justice Mahesh Sonak and Justice Prithviraj Chavan directed Abhijat Parrikar, promoter of Hideaway Hospitality and other respondents, which includes the chief secretary, secretary of environment and forests and the principal chief conservator of forests to file their replies to the notice by March 11.
The petition which has been filed by deputy sarpanch of the Netravali panchayat Abhijit Dessai states that the project had caused destruction of the forested areas. The petition has sought a stay on the construction of the resort near the Netravali wildlife sanctuary in South Goa.
The petitioner has contended that the area is notified as eco-sensitive zone and has raised questions on the in-principle approval granted by Goa Investment Promotion Board for the project. NT
